The Department of Music provides opportunities for critical inquiry and creative expression through the multi-sensory study, performance, creation, and experience of music.
We are dedicated to providing a dynamic musical environment that enhances the liberal arts mission of the College, enriches the cultural environment of the College community, and promotes musical understanding through performance, historical and analytical study, and exposure to the diversity of musical expression.
We welcome all students who seek an engaged and active study of music. Our ten ensembles are open to students in any major, and perform music from a wide array of diverse stylistic, cultural, and aesthetic traditions. Music courses are available to any student, and many meet the College’s Humanities requirement.

Our faculty specialize in a wide range of music disciplines, including performance, musicology, conducting, music theory, and composition. Comprised of six full-time and 18 adjunct members, the faculty are professionally active regionally, nationally, and internationally.Learn about our faculty
A variety of ensembles provide opportunities for performance. While some ensembles require an audition, all are open to students regardless of major, and credit is available to those who enroll in Music 150-162. Private lessons are also available on most instruments.Read about our ensembles
