The Department of Music sponsors 10 ensembles that span a wide range of musical styles. All of our ensembles are open to students in any major.
Our ensembles are supportive communities that focus on providing students with meaningful musical experiences, a strong sense of mutual support and teamwork, as well as a profound understanding of the cultural contexts in which the music they perform was created.
Most of our ensembles are 1/4-credit courses. Several of our ensembles are ideal for beginning-level musicians as well as advanced performers. The majority of our ensembles perform one end-of-semester concert: Pep Band performs at all home football and basketball games, and other ensembles often perform at other events on and off campus.
For the most part, our ensembles all rehearse at different times–this means that one can participate in as many ensembles as their schedule allows.
In fact, many of our students participate in as many as five or even six ensembles in a semester.
